The Historic Murphey Building in downtown New Castle was built by Col. Miles Murphey for his dry goods store. Local historians say that Murphey and his wife, Elizabeth, were guests of Abraham Lincoln at his home in Springfield several times. The building is now home to the New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corporation and Henry County Destination Development.
