THE HOOSIER GYM
“Welcome to Indiana Basketball!” Visit the gym where Coach Norman Dale nervously said this line before the first game coaching the Hickory Huskers in the movie Hoosiers. Put yourself directly in the movie by experiencing staged locker rooms, memorabilia from the film, and more. You can even dribble a basketball around and shoot for a three pointer! The gym still regularly hosts games and events. You never know who you might see at the Hoosier Gym.
Hoosier Gym Outdoor Court
Hickory Outdoor Court is on the grounds of the Knightstown Academy and is a replica of the Hoosier Gym floor with the same court lines painted on the surface. Just a block away, look for the Hoosiers Mural on US 40 in downtown Knightstown.
This mural by notable Indiana artist Pam Bliss captures a memorable moment of Hoosiers.
INDIANA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
In Indiana, basketball isn’t just a game- it’s a tradition, passion, and part of the Hoosier culture. Walk through years of basketball history by visiting the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. The 14,000 square foot museum features individual and team recognition, leading statistics, and several interactive exhibits. Be sure to peek at the flags flying outside to know which teams had recent postseason success.
NEW CASTLE HIGH SCHOOL FIELDHOUSE
New Castle High School Fieldhouse is world’s largest and finest high school fieldhouse, with seating for 8,424 basketball fanatics. The community funded the Fieldhouse through a “Gym Now” campaign in the 1950s when the previous facility could not contain the large number of fans who wanted to attend games. Take a lap around the fieldhouse to see photos of successful athletes, leading scorers, and championship teams that played for New Castle High School.
