Learn More About The Fieldhouse

Fieldhouse Of Dreams By Steve Dicken

About the author: Steve Dicken received his B.S. (Ed,) and M,A, from Ball State University, and taught high school English for thirty -seven years. His last thirty-five years of teaching were in the community that was home to this magnificent fieldhouse. He was briefly an adjunct instructor of freshman English at Indiana University East. He passed away just weeks after this book’s release, but his legacy lives on in his wife, three children, and six grandchildren.

About The Book
In the 1950s, basketball in Indiana was a big deal. School rivalries and hometown pride created an atmosphere much like that depicted in the movie “Hoosiers.” However, in reality, the high school basketball Goliaths frequently dominated the smaller school Davids.

The state tournament’s later rounds were hosted by the bigger schools because they had bigger gyms, increasing the chances that they would win on their home floor.

In one Indiana community, a group of citizens got tired of waiting for their local school corporation to build a bigger gym and took matters into their own hands.

Fieldhouse of Dreams is the story of how the construction of the world’s largest and finest high school fieldhouse fulfilled the dream of those determined movers and shakers.

Many of the stories and details in Fieldhouse of Dreams have never been shared before. With forwards by Hoosier basketball legends Kent Benson and Steve Alford, Fieldhouse of Dreams is sure to be an inspiration, a collectible, a keepsake. It belongs on every dreamer’s bookshelf.

Books are available at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the 1822 Vintage Boutique and Dance Studio in downtown New Castle.
