$25 – $35YMCA Presents Annual Black Cat 5K
The Henry County YMCA is hosting its 20th annual Black Cat Classic 5K. This run and competitive walk will take place on Saturday, October 19. The Black Cat 5K will begin and end in the YMCA parking lot. Bicycles are not permitted however, strollers are welcome.
“The Black Cat 5K is a fun way to kick off Halloween celebrations in New Castle,” shared Kelsay Smith, Director of Youth Development at the Henry County YMCA. “Whether runners come in costume, funny wigs, or in their running shorts, this event helps to remind us to maintain a healthy lifestyle while we have some fun.”
The participation fee is $25 if registered by Wednesday, October 9 and $35 through the race date. Shirts will be limited for those who register after October 9. Shirts may not be available for race day registrations. Top runners in a variety of categories will receive an award after the race.
“The funds raised from this event directly support our scholarship programs, enabling local youth to participate in sports, attend preschool, and enjoy membership benefits,” Smith explained. “These scholarships are vital to reaching more children and making a positive difference in their lives.”
New this year, the YMCA is offering sponsorship opportunities for businesses and individuals to get involved.
“The Black Cat 5K is a great opportunity for businesses to share their support for our community, too” shared Smith. “Many local businesses are already promoting employee health and wellness by offering membership incentives. This exciting event is another way for them to demonstrate their commitment. We encourage everyone in our community to join the fun!”
Individuals wanting to participate in the Black Cat 5K are encouraged to pick up a registration form at the YMCA front desk or contact the race director at blackcatclassic5k@gmail.com. Registration and sponsorship information can also be found at www.henrycountyymca.org/black-cat/ .
